SPECTRAFLOW RECEIVES A NEW ORDER FOR ONE CROSSBELT ANALYZER AND ONE AIRSLIDE ANALYZER FROM SOUTHERN PROVINCE CEMENT COMPANY, SAUDI ARABIA

Southern Province Cement Company Orders SpectraFlow Analyzers for New Line 3 Project at Jazan Cement Plant, Saudi Arabia

Southern Province Cement Company (SPCC) has ordered one SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer for stockpile optimization and one SpectraFlow Airslide Analyzer for raw mill control as part of their new Line 3 project at the Jazan cement plant in Saudi Arabia.

About Southern Province Cement Company:

Southern Province Cement Company is one of the largest cement producers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, operating three manufacturing units in Jazan, Bisha, and Tahama with a current production capacity of 2.49 Mta of cement and 1.84 Mta of clinker.

The first manufacturing unit was established in 1981 in Jazan, while the Bisha plant began operations in 1997 and was expanded with a second line in 2017. The Tahama plant, SPCC’s third cement facility, started with a single line in 2004 and has been operating three lines with a capacity of 15,000 tons of clinker daily since 2017.

After conducting technical studies, SPCC decided in 2023 to establish two new production lines in Jazan. The contract was awarded to China’s Sinoma company, with project completion planned within 30 months. Line 3 will be constructed first, within 18 months, followed by Line 4. Both lines will operate at a capacity of 5,000 tons of clinker per day.

As part of SPCC's ambitious goal to operate state-of-the-art facilities using the latest technology, SPCC, Sinoma, and Austroplan agreed to implement the radioactive-free SpectraFlow Near-Infrared (NIR) Online Analyzers to enhance the quality of the new lines. A SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer will be installed at the crushing unit, and a SpectraFlow Airslide Analyzer will be used after the raw mill to control the raw material supply. This is the first project of its kind within SPCC, with plans to eventually replace all other existing PGNAA analyzers. The transition will eliminate the use of radioactive sources or neutron generators, removing the need for licenses and radiation safety officers. Additionally, the SpectraFlow analyzers will result in low operational costs, further boosting the company's profitability.

SpectraFlow Installation for Quarry/Stockpile Optimization:

The SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer is an online tool used to measure raw materials on belt conveyors. As raw materials from the quarry are processed through a crusher, they become statistically homogeneous on the conveyor belt, resulting in highly accurate analytical data from the SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer.

Using a SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer combined with a site-specific blending strategy will help balance the high variation in local raw materials, increasing the consistency of stockpile quality. Variable MgO, Na2O, K2O, Cl, and SO3 content from the quarry can also be optimally monitored.

Key Benefits:

  • The analyzer is free of any radioactive sources, neutron generators, or hazardous components, meaning it requires no permits or licenses for importation, operation, or maintenance.

  • The SpectraFlow Analyzer is completely safe, and plant personnel can perform maintenance.

  • Stockpile quality will be homogeneous and meet setpoint targets, resulting in stable and low additive consumption at the raw mill.

  • A stable stockpile feed ensures steady raw mill operation and improves the quality of raw meal and clinker.

SpectraFlow Installation for Raw Mill Optimization:

The SpectraFlow Airslide Analyzer is an online tool designed to measure raw materials in airslides. As raw materials pass through the crusher and raw mill, they become statistically homogeneous, allowing the SpectraFlow Airslide Analyzer to provide highly accurate analytical data.

By using a SpectraFlow Airslide Analyzer alongside a site-specific raw mix proportioning strategy, variations in local raw materials can be balanced, significantly increasing the consistency of the raw meal and improving kiln feed quality. Additionally, the analyzer optimally monitors variable MgO, Na2O, K2O, Cl, and SO3 content. Consistent kiln feed reduces kiln stoppages and refractory problems, while simultaneously increasing clinker production.

Key Benefits:

  • The analyzer is free of any radioactive sources, neutron generators, or hazardous components. As a result, the SpectraFlow Analyzer does not require any permits or licenses for importation, operation, or maintenance.

  • The SpectraFlow Analyzer is completely safe, and maintenance can be performed by plant personnel.

  • The raw meal quality will be homogeneous and consistently at the setpoint, leading to stable and optimized kiln operation.

  • The Airslide Analyzer eliminates the need for automatic sample transport systems, automatic laboratories, and the high availability of operators and maintenance personnel required to control raw mill operations.

This SpectraFlow order marks the 60th installation for the cement industry and the 7th Crossbelt Analyzer and 2nd Airslide Analyzer installation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With this order, the global installed base now stands at 84 analyzers (46 Crossbelt & 38 Airslide) across 29 countries on all continents.
